Let’s Talk Denim (And finding the fit that feels right)

Great denim makes getting dressed easier. When your jeans fit well, at the waist and through the leg, everything else in your outfit just falls into place. But with so many denim options out there, it’s easy to feel unsure about which styles actually work for you.

That’s why we created this quick denim guide to break down some of the fits you’ll see currently at Revolution Boutique and help you choose the ones that feel best for your body, lifestyle, and personal style.

DENIM FITS EXPLAINED:
Figure shape is simply a guide not a rule. It helps explain why certain silhouettes feel easier and more flattering than others. Let’s take a look at some common fits:

Cuffed Palazzo:
A flowing, wide-leg silhouette with a cuffed hem and a more fitted feel through the waist and hips. This style offers movement, comfort, and a modern edge.

Works especially well for:
Pear shapes, hourglass figures, or anyone who wants balance through the hips and thighs while keeping definition at the waist.

Style tip: Looks best with a fitted knit, tucked blouse, or shorter structured top to balance the volume.

Straight Leg:
A true wardrobe staple. Straight-leg denim falls evenly from hip to hem, creating clean, timeless lines that are easy to style.

Works especially well for:
All figure shapes this is one of the most universally flattering fits.

Style tip: Pairs effortlessly with almost anything, from relaxed tees worn loose to polished blouses worn tucked or half-tucked.

Wide Leg:
Designed with room through the leg and a flattering rise at the waist, wide-leg denim feels modern, comfortable, and polished.

Works especially well for:
Hourglass, pear, and straight shapes, especially if you want balance and length through the leg.

Style tip: Best styled with a tucked-in top, cropped jacket, or tailored shorter silhouette to keep proportions balanced.

Boyfriend Skinny:
A relaxed take on a slimmer silhouette that feels comfortable without being tight.

Works especially well for:
Apple and straight shapes, or anyone who prefers a streamlined look with ease.

Style tip: Looks great with a longer, looser top worn untucked, or a soft oversized sweater for an easy, casual feel.

Bootcut:
A classic fit with a subtle flare at the hem that helps elongate the leg and balance proportions.

Works especially well for:
Pear and hourglass shapes, or anyone who loves a leg-lengthening effect.

Style tip: Pairs beautifully with fitted tops, blouses, or structured layers that sit at or just below the waist.

Wide Cuff Cropped:
A cropped silhouette finished with a wide cuff for structure and style. This fit feels intentional and polished.

Works especially well for:
Petite and straight shapes, or anyone who wants a modern, styled look.

Style tip: Best with a clean, fitted top or lightweight sweater to keep the look crisp and balanced.

Retro Relaxed:
Inspired by lived-in denim with a softer structure. Easy, comfortable, and made for everyday wear.

Works especially well for:
Apple and straight shapes, or anyone who prioritizes comfort with a put-together feel.

Style tip: Pairs well with a slightly more polished top such as a structured tee, button-up, or lightweight knit.

Cropped Barrel:
A modern silhouette with a gently rounded leg and cropped length that feels relaxed and contemporary.

Works especially well for:
Straight, petite, or slimmer frames — and anyone wanting a fashion-forward shape that still feels easy.

Style tip: Looks best with a more fitted or cropped top to highlight the silhouette and keep proportions clean.

A Quick Note on Rise:
  • Most of our denim comes in high rise or mid-rise;
  • High rise sits at or just above the natural waist and offers a smooth, secure feel, ideal for tucked-in or shorter tops.
  • Mid-rise sits just below the natural waist and feels relaxed and easy — great with longer layers and everyday styling.

Many women love having both, choosing based on comfort, outfit, and how they want their denim to feel that day.

FIGURE SHAPE GLOSSARY:

Straight: Shoulders, waist, and hips are similar in width, creating a straighter silhouette with less waist definition.

Pear: Hips are wider than shoulders, with more fullness through the lower body.

Apple: Fuller through the midsection with slimmer legs and hips.

Hourglass: Shoulders and hips are balanced with a clearly defined waist.

Petite:  Shorter in height overall, often benefiting from cropped or proportioned silhouettes.
